Payments in Person
You may pay your fine in person by coming to the courthouse at 2100 3rd Avenue, Anoka, MN. Ask to be directed to the criminal counter after passing through building security. Office hours are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Visa, MasterCard, and Discover payments are accepted in person or by calling 763-760-6580. Do not call in credit card payments until two weeks after receipt of a citation.
Fine Payment After Sentencing
Your file will be brought to the Criminal Counter upon sentencing. Please take a number on the post in the main hallway, wait for your number to be called and the next available clerk will assist you. If you have pled guilty or are found guilty and ordered to pay a fine, it is assumed that you will pay the same day as your hearing. There are additional fees and surcharges that the Legislature has required that we impose. These fees are forwarded to the State and are used to pay victims of crimes and provide police officer training, among other things. Read more about paying a traffic fine.
Failure to Pay
If you fail to pay your fine or appear in court as directed one or more of the following may occur:
- Your driver's license may be suspended
- A warrant for your arrest may be issued
- Your account may be referred to a collections agency
Notice of Collections
All fines, surcharges, court costs, restitution, and/or fees imposed are due on the date imposed unless the court otherwise establishes a due date or a payment plan. Under Minnesota Statute § 480.15, subdivision 10c, any portion of a fine, surcharge, court cost, restitution, or fee that you fail to pay by the due date may be referred for collection, and collection costs may be added to the amount due.
If you have agreed to a payment plan but fail to pay an installment when due, the entire amount remaining becomes due and payable and may be referred for collection and your driver's license could be suspended.
You have the right to contest a referral to collections based on inability to pay by requesting a hearing no later than the due date.
