Katie Kocinski and Sarah Byrdziak, worked closely with Waste Wise to figure out what opportunities their school had to reduce waste. They decided it would be best to add more paired trash and recycling bins to the gym to accommodate larger volumes for sporting events. Additionally, they utilized grant funds for water bottle filling stations and hand dryers.
“Our students were ECSTATIC to have water bottle filling stations installed. They are active young people and often need more water during the day. Being able to fill at the water bottle filling station has been a significant improvement at our campus.” The students were able to divert 3,225 water bottles during the second half of the school year. Katie then went on to say, “I highly recommend the Anoka County program to other schools; Waste Wise and Anoka County have been so easy to work with. I would work with them again without any hesitation and am extremely grateful for the step-by-step support throughout the entire process!”
